H.E. Union Minister U Win Khaing for MOEE accompanied by Deputy Minister Dr. Tun Naing, Permanent Secretary U Tin Maung Oo and responsible persons from YESC inspected the current status of development of electricity in Yangon Region, today in the afternoon. And then Union Minister and his companions inspected the installation of 15 kV SAC cable for 6.6 kV transmission line in Thingangyun Township, ABC cable for 400 V transmission line in Mayangone Township and 33 kV Thuyekaung substation converted to 66 kV substation in Bahan Township.
Currently, Yangon Region has 1.3 million of households and 83% of people have already electrified. So, people in Yangon Region are consuming 1548 MW in current electricity production of 3357.8 MW. It means 46% of electricity producing in the whole Myanmar.
In Yangon Region, the usage of electricity is increasing 15% per year. MOEE is trying to produce the fulfill voltage of electricity such as making additional works of transmission lines and substations, power plants, power transformers and distribution transformers. In addition to this, MOEE is substituting with Spaced Aerial Cable (SAC) instead of High Density Bear Conductor (HDBC) distribution line by government budget as well as ADB, JICA and World Bank loan.
For safety of electricity in Yangon Region, (12.42) miles in East District, (11.83) miles in West District, (22.18) miles in South District and (18.81) miles in North District totally (65.24) miles had already converted to SAC.
Currently, MOEE had already constructed substations with installed capacity 2665 MVA. And then on going substations with installed capacity 685 MVA in 2018 and additional 900 MVA for 2018-2019 Fiscal Year is made in plan. So, totally installed capacity in 2018-2019 will be 4250 MW.
In Yangon Region, the electricity usage was 854 kWh/ year in 2016-2017 Fiscal Year, 1050 kWh/year in 2017-2018. It is forecasted as 1230 kWh/year in 2018-2019. For more distribution of electricity to unelectrified areas, MOEE constructs the additional transmission lines, substations and power plants.
And then, Union Minister and his companions were attended the meeting in YESC meeting room regarding to the works with the usage of separate account in Yangon Region. In this meeting, Union Minister said that, for the development of electricity in Yangon Region, it needs to rehabilitate old transmission lines and substations and substitution to SAC cable. Before doing those works, MOEE has to declare the reason for lack of power supply in advance. During President’s trip, H.E. inspected to Yangon Region and has approved the budget for the works of additional distribution network and system improvement. And he also instructed the staff to serve dutifully and work effectively taking care of so that not to do repairing again and again.
And then, Divisional Electric Manager of (4) Districts under YESC in Yangon Region explained the works of exchanging complex wire cable under separate account, substitution of ASCR cable to SAC cable, installation of additional transformers, moving concrete pole which are not free in case of expansion of roads and substation of meters. And then Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from YESC made additional explanation above items.
Eventually, Daw Nilar Kyaw, Minister of Electricity, Industry, Road and Communication for Yangon Region explained the work plan for development of electricity in Yangon Region. Deputy Minister Dr. Tun Naing discussed and Union Minister instructed the needs of works on their explanations.
