17 February 2019

Opening Ceremony of 66 /11-6.6 kV, 2 x 20 MVA (GIS) Substation in South Okkalapa Township and 66/11 kV, 2 x 20 MVA (GIS) Substation in Lanmadaw Township implemented by YESC to increase electricity distribution in Yangon Region was held on February 17, 2019 (07:30 am) at this substations.

It was also attended by Union Minister U Win Khaing, Minister for Electricity and Energy, Chief Minister of Yangon Region, U Phyo Min Thein, Regional Hluttaw Speaken of Yangon Region, U Tin Maung Tun, Deputy Minister Dr. Tun Naing, Government Ministers of Yangon Region, Hluttaw Representatives, Departmental heads and  invited guests.

  • Ministry of Electricity and Energy is striving for distribution more electricity to all parts of the country as well as for the development of Yangon Region from the national grid.
  • Previously, as electricity was distributed by 2 x 50 MVA substations, electricity users in South Okkalapa (33697 households) were suttered lack of full voltage and inadequate electricity overloading on substations, transformers and transmission lines during the summer.
  • Therefore, instead of 6.6/0.4 kV, 1000 kVA Transformer, a total of 40 MVA, 66 kV (GIS) Substation is installed to distribute with stable voltage and to fulfill the demand.
  • Nowadays, 40 MVA Substation has been installed instead of dropping voltage (160 V) power distribution. Thus, one-third of the electricity users in South Okkalapa Township can cansume full voltage of electricity.
  • 500 kV Phayakyi – Hlaing Thayar  Transmission Line (60 miles), 230 kV Ywama - Hlaing Thayar – Wartayar Transmission Line (11 miles) (to load share from overloading Hlaing Thayar – Myaungtakar Transmission Line), Thakayta Substation and 230 kV Ahlone, Hlawkar, Ywama & Thakayta Substations are being upgrading to strengthen the power system.
  • As nearly half of the electricity consumption in country is Yangon. Load sharing, extension and new installation of transmission lines are  being conducted by own budget as well as loans.
  • The substation has been built using 5 billion kyats and related power lines 1.9 billion kyats.
  • Yangon using is able to use Residential & Commercial (1278) MW and Industrial (270) MW, totally (1548) MW in 2018 but Residential & Commercial (914) MW and Industrial (182) MW, totally (1096) MW in 2015.
  • Currently, (21) cities in Yangon Region can be used electricity as well as (1057) villages among the (2087) villages in Yangon Region connecting with he national grid.
  • MOEE is making implementation so that to achieve electricity in remaining 166 villages in the fiscal year 2018-2019 by Union budget, government budget as well as loans from Partners such as World Bank, ADB, JICA, etc.

  • To stable the National Grid System more, 500 kV transmission line and substation projects as the main power line (Back Bone of the spine) are being built separating levels.
  • After completion of 500 kV transmission line and substation projects, the power system will be more stable and can distribute the electricity more and more.
  •  The government is being conducting so that to electrify and socio-economic growth, to be developed the small and medium industries based on agriculture and to be increased income and employment opportunities across the Country.
  • In March, 2021, it is planning to get 55% electrification ratio in Myanmar from the national grid.

  • Yangon Region is economic centre, also  a place of population density and MOEE has been carried out the needs of electricity for Hospital promoting project which is implementing  by Health Ministry in accord with guidance of our government .
  • Previously, MOEE has distributed 6.6 kV Voltage system from 66 kV Mawtin Substation (60 MVA) and 33 kV 220 bed Substation (11,5 MVA) to Yangon General Hospital Complex including other related hospital, Nursing University and Customers in Lathar and Lanmadaw townships,
  • MOEE has been constructed 66 kV substation extension work in Load Center places to distribute stable power that can support effective treatment in hospital.
  • MOEE has implemented 66/11 kV, 2x 20 MVA Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substation and associated works to distribute Hospital Complex projects using  13.631  billion kyats,
  • People in Lanmadaw and Lathar townships was previously distributed with 6.6 kV voltage system that happened voltage drop. Nowadays there can distribute with stable voltage due to changing  in 11 kV voltage system.
  • Besides, it can distribute in stable voltage because of  advanced technology in  Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS).
  • There will be effective benefits for treatment and diagnosis due to distribution  in short time by   switching  in easily to another  power Line because this substation is double bus,
