Opening ceremony held for 66/11-6.6 KV, 30 MVA Hline University GIS substation

            In order to increase electricity supply to Yangon Region, opening ceremony for a 66/11-6.6 KV, 30 MVA Hline University Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) sub-station implemented and constructed by Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC) was inaugurated at the sub-station on April 20 at 07:30 am.

            The ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Ministry of Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing, Union Minister for Ministry of Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Tin Maung Tun, Deputy Minister for Ministry of Electricity and Energy Dr. Tun Naing, members of Yangon Region government, representatives from Pyithu, Amyotha and Regional Hluttaw, departmental heads, rectors, teachers and students from university/ college, representatives from Yangon University Teachers’ Union and Yangon University Students’ Union and guests.

            Firstly, in his address to the ceremony, Union Minister revealed that:

  1. When the government is fulfilling the essential requirements of national brethren on all sides equality, one of the priorities is to provide road communications and electricity.
  2. To solve transmission lines overload, MOEE launched to build 500 kV Union Grid and will build five 500 kV Union Grids.
  3. Besides, MOEE also implements plans to access electricity to the remote areas.
  4. Nowadays, Yangon Region is a commercial hub and population center.
  5. As Yangon becomes an area of dense population, the living standards of citizens are also rising day by day.
  6. Moreover, Ministry of Education is increasingly implementing its projects in line with the lead of the State across the nation to enhance education sector for new generation from the various places of Myanmar including the people residing in Yangon.
  7. Therefore, MOEE is attempting to fill electricity gap in the projects of education.
  8. The people (30,213 households/ 43,758 electricity consumers) in Hline Township has used electricity via one 66 kV sub-station and four 33 kV sub-stations in Hline and Mayangone.
  9. So, there are occurrences such as overload conditions at sub-stations, transformers and transmission lines in summers, no full voltage and no sufficient electricity.
  10. In order to distribute qualified and stable electricity, do load sharing and fulfill electricity needs to a suitable limit, an installed capacity 30 MVA 66 kV GIS sub-station with eight feeders is upgraded at above mentioned place where is load center.
  11. There will be effective benefits for the universities, colleges, educations and research facilities because MOEE upgraded 6.6 kV to 11 kV system to distribute more stable electricity.
  12. The Hline GIS sub-station was cost about 4.5 billion kyats and double under cable 1.5 miles was cost 1.3 billion kyats to connect sub-station by MOEE.
  13. To become more firm and stable electricity distribution system and distribute electricity with full voltage in Yangon Region, the State has expended 125.9 billion kyats on the projects such as building extended upgrading transmission lines and maintenance for power plants and sub-stations.
  14.  Although Residential & Commercial 914 MW, Industrial 182 MW, Total 1,096 MW were been used in 2015, Residential & Commercial 1278 MW, Industrial 270 MW, Total 1,548 MW has been consumed in 2018.
  15. At present, 21 towns of Yangon Region are accessing electricity and MOEE distributed electricity to 1,069 of total 2,143 villages.
  16. Amidst the remaining villages, the projects of getting electricity in 166 villages are implementing to complete with the Union Budget, Regional Budget and the loans of World Bank, ADB, JICA, etc.
  17. 1,204,075 (76%) of 1,582,944 households in Yangon Region are consuming electricity from National Grid and MOEE is making plans to get 100% electricity in 2020-2021.
  18. Moreover, Alone Gas Fired Power Plant (120 MW), Alone LNG Power Plant (356 MW) and Meelinngyine LNG are carried out in order to supply the promoting electricity needs of Yangon in the future and 136,621.64 million kyats will be cost in building 16 new 66 kV sub-stations (870 MVA) and upgrading to 66 kV sub-station (870 MVA) from the present fiscal year to 2020-2021 for distributing the getting electricity from above three plants.
  19. Today, 44% of households access electricity and the aim of MOEE is to get 50% of the whole households at the end of 2019, 55% in 2020-2021, 75 % in 2025-2026 and 100% in 2030.
  20. To fulfill these aims, MOEE executes vigorously in accordance with the Union Budget and Regional/ State Budgets including international loans.
  21. Furthermore, the government cordially invites local and international investments so that economic sector, education sector, health sector, social sector, etc. will be boosted.
  22. Thus, the entire national people need to collaborate with MOEE to taste the fruits of endeavor as soon as possible.

            Next, Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein spoke in honor of implementing the sub-station upgrade and expansion followed by Hline Township Pyithu Hluttaw representative U Aung Kyaw Kyaw Oo spoke words of thanks.

            Afterwards, Yangon Region Hluttaw Speaker U Tin Maung Tun, Deputy Minister for Ministry of Electricity and Energy Dr. Tun Naing, Yangon Region Minister for electricity, industry, road and communication Daw Nilar Kyaw, Yangon Region Hluttaw representatives U Kyaw Kyaw Tun and Daw Khaing Mar Htay and Yangon University Teachers’ Union Chairman Dr. Tun Tun Naing cut the ceremonial ribbon to open the 66/11-6.6 KV, 30 MVA Hline University GIS Sub-station.

            Union Ministers U Win Khaing and Dr. Myo Thein Gyi and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein then unveiled the stone pillar with a plaque commemorating by pressing a button, sprinkled scented water on the pillar and the plaque and inspected the sub-station.
