A ceremony to present compensation to the farmers was held at the meeting room of the General Administration Department in Shwegyin Towship, Bago Region yesterday morning .

        At the ceremony, Bago Region Minister for Electricity and Road Transport U Than Win made an opening speech. After wards, Bago Region Minister for Kayin Ethnic Affairs Daw Naw Pwal Sea explained matters relating to land compensation before a local farmer spoke words of thanks.

        The Department of Hydropower Implementation under the Ministry of Electricity and Energy asked for compensation from the Union Government in the fical year 2017-2018 for local people whose farmlands were confiscated when construction of Shwegyin Dam began in 2002. During the ceremony , Ks. 1211.053 million compensation for more than 2681 acres of farmland were given to 439 people from 115 households from two villages.

        The ceremony was also attended by the lawmakers, the  Deputy Director General from the Department of Hydropower Implementation, township level departmental officials, guests and local people.
