HE Union Minister U Win Khaing for Electricity and Energy meets with the responsible persons of the Franchise Companies who are permitted to distribute and sell the electricity.

The coordination meeting between MOEE and the Franchise Companies who are permitted to distribute and sell the electricity was held at Ministry’s hall. Union Minister U Win Khaing, Deputy minister Dr. Tun Naing, U Kyi Moe Naing, Chairman of Electricity and Energy Development Committee (Phithu Hluttaw) and members, Permanent Secretary U Tin Maung Oo, , Director Generals, Managing Directors, Departmental Heads, Chairmen and responsible persons from Franchise Companies were presented.
Firstly, Union Minister U Win Khaing said that MOEE has been proceeding to solve the problems of electricity needs over 60 years, and the responsible persons attending in this meeting are essential for supply chain to be a reliable power supply that are expected by public. He said the current rate of maximum electricity consumption in Myanmar is 3200 MW per day and the average consumption is 1500 MW, technical and non-technical losses is about 17 %. MOEE will try to reduce current losses. It is estimated to increase 6000 MW per day in 2020-2021 according to the demand forecast. Due to the current production amount is 3000 MW, it is needed to generate next 3000 MW per day.
Due to shortage of natural gas in 2020-2021, MOEE signed MOU with 4 companies for LNG power plants on 30 Jan 2018. In order to distribute the enough electricity in Myanmar, MOEE has to construct 500 kV transmission lines (National Grid System).
It will need to emphasize to be a reliable, safety, qualified power supply by Franchise Companies to improve foreign investment.
And then, 17 Franchise Companies explained about their electricity distribution and selling in 58 townships. Deputy Minister and U Kyi Moe Naing, Chairman of Electricity and Energy Development Committee, submitted their comments and Union Minister instructed the attending members for developing electric sector.
