Accompanied by Social Welfare Minister from Mon State Government Dr. Htein Lin, Permanent Secretary U Tin Maung Oo and departmental officials, Union Minister U Win Khaing visited to the Gas Fired Power Plant (Thaton) project near Kyarpan Village, Thaton Township, Mon State on November 16 in the morning.
First of all, Managing Director for Electric Power Generation Enterprise U Khin Maung Win and official of China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (CEEC) provided explanations about the activities of the project. In response to the explanations, Union Minister U Win Khaing spoke the needs to conduct and then he looked around the plant.
Since 1985, Gas Fired Power Plant (Thaton) has started to generate power by two 16.25 MW Gas Turbines and one 18.45 MW Gas Turbine and distributing electricity to Mon State and Kayin State. As the machines of this plant have been applied long time and have no high capacity like modern machines, the plant is upgraded with the aid of World Bank’s loans. The Gas Turbine and Steam Turbine, newly building machines are made by General Electric (GE) Co., Ltd; USA and the plant was constructed by China Energy Engineering Corporation Ltd. The contract value was US $ 110 billion.
Gas Fired Power Plant (Thaton) was started to implement in March, 2016. Today, the machines in plant are being testing to generate power. It is targeted to generate 118.9 MW in February, 2019.
In order to meet the electricity demand using power generated from new plant, it is planning to build 230 kV Transmission Line 9 miles and a new 230/66 kV MVA Sub-station near Ein Du. In addition, as 230 kV Mawlamyine-Myawaddy Transmission Line 55.5 miles and 230 kV 110 MVA Myawaddy Sub-station are being building, they will completely finish in March, 2019. If finish those projects, the electricity can be supplied to 8 towns and 399 villages in Kayin State more and more.
