Union Ministers inspect Yadana Offshore Project

          Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win, and Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing accompanied by responsible persons inspected the Yadana Offshore project, Block M5 and M6 of the Mottama Offshore on November 10, 2018.

          Firstly, Union Ministers and his colleagues heard a report about the status of production and distribution of natural gas and the conservation to reduce environmental damage by officials of Yadana offshore project and then U Myo Myint Oo, Managing Director from Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise made addition explanation. Union Ministers asked and discussed about what they wanted to know and ordered to operate seriously to be lack of environmental damage. Then, they inspected around the project area.

          Yadana Natural Gas Project is located in Block M5 and M6, Mottama offshore area. Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise under Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Total E&P Myanmar, Unocal Co.,Ltd., and PTTEP Co.,Ltd., contracted Production Sharing Contract (PSC) on July 9, 1992 and started exploration and production works and then exported natural gas via pipe line to Thai on July 31, 1998.

          There are 3 well-head platforms, 1 office room and quarter platform, 1 production platform and 1 compression platform at Yadana Natural Gas Project. At the project area, natural gas is currently produced 700 MMcfd from 1 appraisal well, 1 water injection well, 4 water break-threw wells, 15 production wells within October.

          515 MMcfd are being supplied to Thailand through 216 miles long and 36 inch-in-diameter pipe line from Yadana Offshore to natural gas receiving centre from offshore and then natural gas is produced and exported to natural gas metering station on the border with 39 miles long pipeline. And it is currently supplying average of about 155 MMcfd for domestic.

          It was surveyed 4 Dimension Seismic 227.77 km2 to conclude the maintenance of production and it will be carried out 3 Dimension Seismic survey in M5 block after that. On 16th November 2016, Existing Yadana Facilities Environmental management Plan-EMP of M5 and M6 blocks was submitted by TEPM to the Ministry of National Resources and Environmental Conservation, and that ministry has approved the report on 6th August, 2018. The EIA revised report of Exploration Drilling (M-6 B-1/ Aung Yadana Well) in M6 Block was submitted to that ministry’s Environmental Conservation Department on 28th June, 2017 and Exploration Drilling’s EIA (revised) was submitted again and ordered to TEPM refilling in accord with their advice on 7 September, 2018. So, TEPM also submitted the 3D Seismic Survey IEE (revised) report to the department on 22 May, 2018, and ECD approved the report on 10th August 2018. The Yadana project is following the requirements of the International Sewage Pollution Prevention –ISPP Certificate in disposing of its sewage and gray water. It is operating the disposal of Putrescible (Food Waste) in accordance with MARPOL 73/78 (Annex V), the disposal of blige water and deck drainage in accordance with MARPOL 73/78 (Annex I), the disposal of solid and hazardous waste discharges in accordance with MARPOL 73/78 Annex (IV & V) and in accordance with the international standards such as the disposed waste within the sea and terms and conditions to be followed of General EHS Guidelines & Offshore EHS Guideline acted by International Financial Corporation.
