A ceremony regarding achieving electricity at Tagaung Area, Thabeikkyin Township, Pyin Oo Lwin District was held at 14th Oct, 2018 (10:00)am.
H.E. Union Minister U Win Khaing for MOEE, Dr. Khin Maung Htay, Deputy Speaker of Mandalay Region Hluttaw, H.E. Deputy Minister Dr. Tun Naing, Pyithu Hluttaw and Amyothar Hluttaw Representatives, Government Ministers of Mandalay Region, Departmental Heads of MOEE, Mr. Kojun NAKASHIMA, Myanmar Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and members of JICA, Local people and Special Guests were attended to the Ceremony.
As the agenda, Dr. Tun Naing, Deputy Minister for MOEE, U Hlaing Win, Industry, Energy and Electricity Committee of Mandalay Region Hluttaw, U Toe Aung, Acting Chairman of MESC, U Tin Myint Swe, Regional Hluttaw Representative of Thabeikkyin Township and Mr. Kojun NAKASHIMA, Myanmar Representative of JICA cut the ribbon for ceremony in commemoration.
And then, Union Minister U Win Khaing for MOEE and Deputy Speaker of Mandalay Region Hluttaw Dr. Khin Maung Htay pressed the button for opening sign-board in commemoration of 33/11 kV, 5 MVA Tagaung Substation and inspected around.
And then, the second part of ceremony went on as agenda. In this ceremony, Union Minister delivered that:
- Today is a significant day for Tagaung Area and also an auspicious day for our country. Tagaung, the beginning Area of Myanmar has changed totally in history by getting electricity today.
- Tagaung Area was distributed for 2 or 3 hours a day before. But, commencing from today, the people live not only in Tagaung but also in Thabeikkyin can consume electricity the whole day.
- Ministry of Electricity and Energy is striving generating electricity to fulfill industrial and local demand, so that there are 3483 MW of maximum electricity generation at present.
- Moreover, the progress percentage of current use annually is about 15 ~ 19 % so that the annually demand will be 4531 MW (2020 ~ 2021).
- As for fulfill on gas demand and Yadanar Project’s plateau period will be finished in 2021, MOEE will perform exploring and producing in Offshore and Onshore blocks. Moreover, MOEE will invite the International Crude Oil Co., Ltd. by making Bidding Rounds for new blocks. At present, among Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration Works, Offshore Block A-6 in Ayeyarwady Region is in good potential.
- 500 KV lines such as National Grid, Southern Grid, Eastern Grid and Western Grid are performing to transmit generated power form power plants. In addition, it is planned to build 230 kV, 132 kV lines and substations.
- In Myanmar, 4.55 million (41.82%) households among 10.89 million households have gained access to electricity in August, 2018. It is necessary to get electricity for the rest households (6.33 million, 58.18%). Ministry of Electricity and Energy aims to electrify 55% of Myanmar’s households from power system in March, 2021. Therefore, MOEE is dynamically implementing for distributing electricity with the assistance of the Union Budget and State/Region Budget including international loans.
- By borrowing the concessional loans which are lower interest rates of ADB, JICA, KFW and World Bank, MOEE is performing the tasks of electricity distribution to keep pace in time. To have access to electricity around the country by 2030, National Electrification Plan was drawn with the aid of World Bank. As initial project, MOEE accepted a loan of US$ 310 million and is performing the first phase of NEP, to gain access to electricity 5080 villages within 2 miles far from National Grid to respective States and Regions. It will be finished in June and then (626757) households of (5,080) villages will get electricity from national grid. At the second phase, it is calculating for getting electricity from villages within 5 miles far from national grid and then, it will make tender in December, 2018. We will implement that Project of second phase to complete at the end of September 2021. After completion of the projects of villages within 2 miles far as the first phase and villages within 5 miles far as the second phase, it will get electricity about (1,032,411) households of (8,537) villages. And it will be promoted totally about 9.5% of electrification rate.
- In Mandalay Region, annual increased electric power consumption is 15 % and (568) Villages and (130290) Households were more distributed electric power during March 2016 to today. At present condition, among (1.3) million Households, (0.71) million Households (53.9%) were used electric power in Mandalay Region.
- In Tagaung Area, 18 villages and 4638 Households can get electric power as the completion of 33/11/5 MVA Tagaung Substation. According to getting increased electric power in Tagaung Area, it can get socio economic development and local development, it can also set it up small and medium industrial works and it can provide job opportunities for local people and can support other sector a lot.
Eventually, Deputy Speaker of Mandalay Region Hluttaw Dr. Khin Maung Htay delivered the memorial speech, Mr. Kojun NAKASHIMA, Myanmar Representative of JICA, U Toe Aung, Acting Chairman of MESC and U Tin Myint Swe, Regional Hluttaw Representative of Thabeikkyin Township explained the performance status for achieving electricity in Tagaung Area and one local people expressed thankful remarks.
