Brief History of MPE

        Petroleum sector was nationalized in 1963 and a state-owned corporation was organized as the name of “Petroleum Corporation” in 1964 and was changed as “Burma Petroleum Corporation in 1970.” After that, it was reorganized separately to two branches as Petrochemical Industries Corporation and Petroleum Products Corporation in 1975. Again, from 1989, Petrochemical Industries Corporation was changed to the name of Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise up to now.

Objective

        According to the Economic Policy, MPE is willing to enhance the production capacity of petroleum and petrochemical products using oil and natural gas as feed stock, from onshore and offshore block in the environmentally-friendly production with energy saving technologies.

MPE’s Doing Business

        Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise (MPE) is a state owned downstream petroleum sub-sector of Ministry of Electricity and Energy and consists of three refineries, five fertilizer factories, and three liquefied petroleum gas plants. MPE is responsible for the followings:

  • Production of Petroleum and Petrochemicals Products, urea fertilizer from crude oil and natural gas.
  • Transportation and movement of Crude oil and Petroleum Products
  • Marketing of LPG, Urea Fertilizer, Motor Gasoline, and High Speed Diesel.
